For several years, when rain preempted an outdoor shoot, I would wrap up my video camera in a plastic bag and walk around the city, hanging it from trees, traffic signals and light poles. Wind and rain would spin the camera unpredictably, and I'd let it record what it would, relinquishing control of the filming to the same forces of nature that had interrupted my original plans.
